Dear Parents, Carers, Governors and Friends of Golborne and Maxilla
Our topic this half term is Love for learning. Each week we will focus on a different area of the curriculum. This week we have been focussing on children’s physical development. We have supported this by practising cutting skills with scissors, holding pencils in a tripod grip and writing letters from their name. We have also been teaching exercise and dancing activities so that the children can observe and talk about the effects this has on their bodies. This will be followed by ‘Communication and Language week’ (03/05/21), during this week we will read The Hungry Caterpillar, we will write invitations and we will read recipes and cook. During Creative week (10/5/21) we will read Dear Zoo, we will paint our self-portraits and we will make musical instruments. Maths Week (17/05/21) – during this week we will read The Doorbell Rang, we will focus on counting, sharing out and going on a shape hunt. Finally during Understanding of the World week (24/05/21) we will engage in experiments with baking soda and vinegar, we will navigate remote control cars and we will use mirrors to look at similarities between us and our friends.
We would like to introduce you to Meg. Meg is Veronica’s new puppy (6 months old) who will be visiting us regularly. Some of our children have already met Meg and it has been very positive. Research has shown that having a pet in school teaches empathy, respect, kindness, love, responsibility and friendship. Our aim is to support children’s wellbeing and mental health by allowing them opportunities in very small groups to spend some time with Meg. She will never roam around school off lead and will predominantly be based in Veronica’s office. A suitable risk assessment has been completed and a dog policy will be presented for approval at the next Governing Body meeting. If any parents would like any further information please talk to Veronica H. Once the Policy has been approved by Governors, this will be available on our school website and whenever Meg is going to be on site this will be included on website too.
School Book Loan
Our Book loan scheme has restarted this week. For those families who have joined us this year. Each week children are able to choose one book to take home to read for the week. We have adapted this for this term and each day a different keyworker group will choose their books to take home for a week; returning them the following week. Books chosen are recorded in the Book Loan Folder and any lost books are chargeable.
Natalie and Veronica’s group loan day is Monday, Begoña’s group on Tuesday, Alketa’s group on Wednesday, Thursday is Stanka’s group and Friday Amanda’s. Please remember to bring the book bags in on your allocated day. If you are unsure, please ask.
Keyworkers will be available on set days to have a quick catch-up with parents. For longer discussions please call the office to make an appointment.
